WW II Footage Of Bomb Run On Japan - Quite long, about 36 minutes, but worthwhile if you are a WWII history buff!  This is spectacular live footage of the 3,000 mile round trip air assault upon the Japanese mainland, with 3 bomber wings and a host of P-51's. This is the real way to end a war.  No matter what war footage you ever saw before, this is the real deal and will keep your undivided attention. The P-51 & B29 footage is remarkable. The strafing runs by the P-51 drivers were incredible.  Thanks Ed!

Veterans Day Ocean County  - Veterans Day events abounded in our corner of the world, Brick Boro Hall, Post 348, the VFW, Post 351 and Post 129 all held services over the weekend.  Thanks to the Brick PBA for their Annual Veterans Breakfast which got us all in out of the cold.  Post 129 hosted a book signing Six Degrees of the Bracelet, Viet Nams Continuing Grip" with guest speaker former POW, Lt Myron Donald.  Post 351 held their event on Saturday, as the Blue Star Family Support group chaired by Nancy Robbins and Bruni McBride handed out Blue Star banners to military families that attended.  The Blue Star FSG is running a Christmas Cookie drive to send homemade cookies to those serving in Afganistan.  If youd like to make a donation, participate in baking cookies or have the name of a soldier who you would like to see added to the distribution list, please contact Bruni or Nancy at bluestarfsg@gmail.com.  Cookies should be brought to Seaside Post 351 on December 1 at 6PM to be included in the shipment!

Dealing  With Muslims -INTERESTING!

Two  Black Americans were elected to congress this cycle, and both  are Republican. Col. West is from southern Florida .  He  won in a walk.

This new Congressman was an extremely  popular commander in Iraq . He was forced to retire because  during an intense combat action a few of his men were captured.  At the same time his men captured one of the guys who were with  the Iraqis who captured his men.

Knowing  that time was crucial and his interrogators were not getting  anywhere with the prisoner, Col. West took matters into his own  hands. He burst into the room and demanded thru an interpreter  that the prisoner tell him where his men were being taken. The  prisoner refused so Col. West took out his pistol and placed it  into the prisoner's crotch and fired. Then the Col. told the  prisoner that the next shot would not miss. So the prisoner said  he would even show where the American service members were being  taken.
The  Americans were rescued. Someone  filed a report on incorrect handling of  prisoners. Col. West  was forced to retire. Col. West was just elected in November  2010 to Congress from Florida . During the elections he was part  of a panel on how to handle or how to relate to Muslims. You  will see his answer here explaining in just over a minute the about Islam.

Photos from the Vietnam Memorial Ride - Oct 2011

Total Success for the Memorial and the name of The American Legion Family.  You can’t get any better and more proactive for our proud and established name!!  Thank you all that participated and the Department that supported this event!!!  Thank you also to the 60+ volunteers from many VSO’s and organizations, too many to list here.  Thanks to The Adjutant General, MG Glenn K. Rieth, Deputy Commissioner Ray Zawacki (also guest speaker), Jill Priar and to the DMAVA staff for their total support and use of their facility in Lawrenceville!  The Memorial Foundation and the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) are true partners in every definition of the word!  Commander Harold even signed up some new members!  Hoorah!!

Riders (in order of registration) & participants included: Posts and Chapters #348, 174, 19, 155, 69, 129, 414, 232, 352, 84, 91, 391, 113, Red Knights, Rolling Thunder National, Chapters 2 & 3, Mission of Honor, VVA, Patriot Guard and many others that came directly to Holmdel.  We also had an antique car show hosted by the VVA, Radio Station 101.5 was present broadcasting Big Joe Henry’s show, and giving out prizes.  The Memorial’s Gift Shop was open and also selling our own designed T-shirt, depicting a helicopter LZ (landing zone), with troops unloading, and orange, yellow and red flames in the background; absolutely stunning!  Some will be on sale soon at http://www.njvvmf.org/.  The total sales of these shirts will be a net profit of about $7,800 to the Memorial because the cost was  generously donated by Denville Post 390 ($2,000), additional forthcoming donors, and others that will be listed in the final report including Post/Chapters Brick 348 ($1,000), 113 and 129.  Post 129 also paid the required labor fees of $270 for the use of the Lawrenceville Armory.

Other key guests of the program included Chaplain Joseph Formola of VVA Chapter 779, Dennis Smith of Rolling Thunder and our Legion Police Chairman performed the POW/MIA Remembrance Service, Al Lucente, of VVA 800 and Mission of Honor Vice Chairman, sang a beautiful and excellent rendition of the National Anthem, and Bugler Robert Hornyak of Legion Post 211 played a tear-filled Taps.  The excellent and precision Post 129 Color Guard, led by Gary Stansbury, and VVA Chapter 899 and Mission of Honor Rifle Squad led by Ronald Hathaway could have competed with any active duty squads!

Committee members included:  Judy Kapp (also Mission of Honor), Ellen & Mike Schaffer of “129”, Lisa & Kevin Corris, Glenda & Doug Jantz of “348”, Bill Linderman & Lynn Duane of the NJVVMF, Ken Gurbisz of “325”, Herb Worthingt  Wreaths were presented by Gold Star Mother Helen Gurbisz, our Commander Harold, and VVA Regional Director Herb Worthington.on of the VVA, Jim Noble of “19”, Melissa & Daryll Seip, Bob Murray, and the undersigned of “113”.  One of the most important factors of the Success was that these committee members, and other participants, “checked” their organizations’ names and caps “at the door” and worked together as a team for the common good of the veteran, and the education of the Vietnam era’s future generations!
